Chattanooga Addiction Rehab

rehab chattanoogaIn 2011, the editors of Outside Magazine were surprised when their readers pronounced Chattanooga the “best town ever.” People who live here, however, may not be so surprised. The town has a lot to offer to both the active and the sedate, and people who live here tend to be passionate about their neighborhoods and their state. There are times, however, when it might be best to leave the city behind. People with addictions, for example, might consider traveling outside of the city’s borders in order to deal with an addiction issue.

Taking a Step Back

Recovering from addiction means taking charge of the physical changes the drug abuse has brought about, but a full recovery also means breaking old habits and old ways of thinking. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 90 percent of people who have addictions obtain care on an outpatient basis, so they continue to live at home while they learn. But, traveling outside of Chattanooga might mean accepting inpatient care, and this could allow people to reap big benefits.

In an inpatient program, people step away from responsibilities concerning:

  • Work
  • School
  • Childcare
  • Elder care
  • Housecleaning
  • Grocery shopping
  • Garden care
  • Pet care

In short, all of the little tasks that can add stress to a person’s life are handled by someone else when a person is in an inpatient program. The focus moves from handling life into handling healing and really making a fresh start. For some people, this can be transformative.

Far, But Not Too Far

Traveling outside of Chattanooga might be beneficial, but people who obtain care in other states may have their own concerns to deal with. For example, many people who have addictions need to work with their families in joint sessions as they heal. The whole group comes together to discuss how the addiction has changed the dynamics of the group, and they all come up with techniques they can use to support one another and make things better. People who travel to other states may find it hard to participate in this kind of therapy, as their family members may need to hop on a plane each time a session is scheduled.

Similarly, distance can play a role in issues of payment. Some insurance programs keep tight control over the facilities that can provide care, and they resist paying for treatment in programs their executives haven’t had the opportunity to visit. Traveling to another state could make these visits impossible, and that could make insurance payments unlikely.

Thankfully, there is a middle ground. People in Chattanooga can get excellent care in neighboring cities, allowing them to access help on an inpatient basis in an unfamiliar location, but the distance to care isn’t so far that family members can’t stay involved or that insurance programs won’t cover care. For some people, neighboring cities provide an excellent solution.
